Eucharistic miracles exhibit is traveling the diocese

"Find God, and you will find the meaning of your life," Blessed Carlo Acutis once said. He was secure in his faith, and he wanted others to know the Lord, too. So this youth from Italy embarked on a two-year adventure to uncover the eucharistic miracles that have unfolded throughout the ages.

When he was done, Acutis discovered 157 eucharistic miracles from every corner of the earth, and he created a website to post them online.

Bill and Mary Rykman recently brought a traveling exhibit of Acutis’ Eucharistic Miracles of the World to St. Paul the Apostle Church in Spartanburg, and it was a mind-blowing event. For three days, pilgrims from across South Carolina flocked to experience the treasury of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and those were three fantastic feast days: the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Father’s Day.

It was no coincidence that 650 people, young and old, showed up to experience the wonder and awe of Jesus. Sue Klatte was one of them, and she said the miracle at Buenos Aires, Argentina took her breath away. During a Mass in 1996, a consecrated host was dropped on the ground, and when the priest tried to properly dispose of it, it began to bleed and formed heart muscle. Investigators could not explain this Real Presence.

"That really tells us the Eucharist is the flesh and blood of Christ," Klatte said. "There is no question about it. It makes my skin tingle."

Susan Schweizer was wowed by the miracle at Santarem, Portugal, in 1247, when an unhappy wife stole a consecrated host. When she fled, it began to bleed. Then she tried to hide it in her home, and rays of light burst forth from the Eucharist. Our Lord refused to be stolen and refused to be hidden.

"I saw this during our pilgrimage in 2005," Schweizer said of the miracle. "It was awesome," and it still is.

Steve Holland, meanwhile, was drawn to the miracle of Paris in 1290.

"This guy tried to destroy the Eucharist, and every time he did, it fought back," he said.

Even young souls were drawn to these mind-boggling miracles. Organizers made it fun for kids with a scavenger hunt, offering clues and letting the children search for their favorite miracles. Moms and dads didn’t mind being drawn along with them in the hunts.

Christ called Acutis to research the miracles of the Real Presence, and as they travel the state now, go — enjoy the miracles, find God in them, discover the meaning of your life, let the Lord guide you. He will point the way.

As Blessed Carlo Acutis told us, "The Eucharist is my highway to heaven."
