Catholic Radio telethon proclaims the faith during Via Fidelis

As we enter the fall season of 2025, we reflect on the theme of the year proclaimed by Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune, CS, which he set forth through the Diocese of Charleston’s five-year recommitment plan, called Via Fidelis, the faithful way.

This renewal of faith plan began in 2025 and will last through 2029. For 2025, the theme has been “Proclaim the Faith,” which places an emphasis on the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. Much like the catechumenal process, this initial stage will proclaim the Gospel, leading to a deeper reflection on the truths of the faith.

In support of spreading the word, South Carolina’s Catholic Radio has joined forces to help proclaim the faith by participating in this initial phase of the five-year Via Fidelis plan. They will conduct a special radiothon broadcast on October 2 and 3. For the entire two days, the theme will be: Evangelization – Proclaim the Faith

Michael Brennan with Catholic Radio said that the focus will be on reading the Gospel, so that it can be heard and internalized.

“His excellency, Bishop Fabre, has delineated his five-year plan to help each of us who have been baptized in the mystery of Jesus Christ walk the faithful way with the Lord,” he said.

In the bishop's Pastoral Letter, he wrote that each of us must be committed to learn more about what we believe as followers of Jesus and as members of the Church.

“It is through growing in knowledge that we can deepen our love and pursuit of God’s will in our lives. As a remedy to the hurt in our world and as an opportunity for us to draw closer and walk with the Lord Jesus, we recommit ourselves to the Lord Jesus and will make a five-year Via Fidelis together,” the letter reads.

The 2025 radiothon will feature special guests, such as Catholic author and speaker Steve Wood, who will give his take on why reading the Gospel is important and how to understand and interpret it.

The ideas behind Via Fidelis will be presented at Mass and in other ways, but getting the word out through Catholic Radio is unique because the broadcast platform is available 24/7 on the app, and it provides authentic Catholic teaching.

“You can pray while driving and not be distracted. You can put the rosary on at night to go to sleep,” Brennan said. “Some of the programs can be more engaging. Some people say they like to listen to prayers to go to sleep. The point is that you can listen anywhere you want, and it’s free to the listener, too.”

He also explained that what he likes about the theme for 2025 is that it brings us back to the basics.

“We are starting with reading the Gospel. That is what we are supposed to do. Evangelizing is what we should be doing. Maybe this is a reaction to what is going on in the outside world. I like that we are simply just getting back to the basics,” he said.

Catholic Radio programming has proven to be a cost-effective evangelization tool that counters the shallow assumptions of the secular media and makes a difference in individual lives by presenting the life-changing message of the Gospel, the teachings of the Catholic Church, and a time-tested moral perspective on critical issues and events.

This two-day broadcast is from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. It can be heard on:
