Missionary Oblate Father John Leddy dies at 91

BELLEVILLE, Ill.—Father John J. Leddy, OMI, died Dec. 1 at the Dammert Center after a lengthy illness. He was 91. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 11. He was interred at the Oblate cemetery at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence and Infirmary.

Bishop Guglielmone makes official appointments

CHARLESTON—Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone has made the following appointments: Franciscan Father Khoa Nguyen,  Vietnamese ministry of the Diocese of Charleston, with particular attention to Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Anthony of Padua Churches, Greenville, effective July 1. Father Paul D. MacNeil, parochial vicar, St. Gregory the Great Church, Bluffton, effective Oct. 8.

GREENVILLE—Richard Ballard was a Lutheran pastor for more than 20 years before he realized that the Catholic Church was his true spiritual home. He came into the church at Easter in 2006 and is now a permanent deacon.

Area’s first African-American priest dies

MONCKS CORNER—Trappist Father Leonard Aloysius Cunningham, the first African-American from Charleston to be ordained a priest, died Dec. 5 at his Mepkin Abbey home. He was 87. A Mass of Christian burial was held Dec. 9 at the abbey church and burial was in the Mepkin cemetery.

Sister Kathleen Frances Carroll, OSF
Franciscan Sister Kathleen Carroll dies at age 83

ASTON, Pa.—Sister Kathleen Frances Carroll, OSF, formerly Sister M. Brian, died in Assisi House on Dec. 5. She was 83 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 58 years.

Mohlman finds perpetual joy in adoration

TAYLORS—The first thing Nancy Mohlman did when she joined Prince of Peace Church was sign up for the welcoming committee. She said she wanted to pay back all the friendship and warmth that she received from the moment she walked in the door.
