Tom Ervin earns Outstanding Eagle Scout award

GREENVILLE—Tom Ervin was awarded the National Eagle Scout Association’s Outstanding Eagle Scout Award for 2017 at the 2018 Blue Ridge Council Banquet at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church recently.

Presented by Mac McLean, council president, the award recognizes Ervin’s distinguished service to his profession and community.

In his youth, Ervin earned the rank of Eagle Scout with three additional Eagle Palms, and received the God and Country Award in 1967. He participated in the 1968 trek to Philmont Scout Ranch and was awarded the Boy Scouts of America Medal for Meritorious Action for helping rescue a motorist.

He graduated from Erskine College and the University of South Carolina School of Law, served in the S.C. House of Representatives, and was elected the youngest circuit court judge in state history at age 32.

Now retired, he served as president of the Foothills Community Foundation and later as president/CEO of the Foothills United Way.
