Flying flakes of fun

BLUFFTON—Marissa Majorkiewicz and Quinlan Bruen, fourth-graders at St. Gregory the Great, are pelted with snowballs at the school’s annual Snow Day on Feb. 10. Students earned participation through good behavior and achieving accelerated reading goals. They built snowmen, made snow angels and threw snowballs at their favorite targets: the principal, teachers and parents. Afterward, the children changed into their pajamas and read, played board games and drank hot chocolate. The pre-K students also went ‘ice-skating’ down the halls.

TAYLORS—The Beta Club from Prince of Peace won three plaques and a ribbon at the annual convention. Brendan Treanor, Luc Sanchez, Matthew Jacques and Andy Widman, all sixth-graders, won first place in the quiz bowl and are eligible to compete in the National Junior Beta Convention this summer in Richmond, Va. Other winners include Katherine Alber, eighth grade, second place in watercolors; Jessica Crosby, eighth grade, runner-up for language arts; and Hunter Newell, seventh grade, runner-up for science.POP Beta Club wins awards.

They will attend a five-day seminar on how to integrate scientific and religious perspectives into the curriculum. The University’s Institute for Church Life developed the program to address themes of conflict and separation between religion and science.
