St. Mary hosts clergy appreciation
AIKEN‡—St. Mary Help of Christians Church held its annual Clergy Appreciation Dinner on Oct. 21 to honor priests and deacons.

St. Clare of Assisi Fraternity hosted the event for more than 200 people. Fathers Gregory Wilson, Ernest Hepner and Hugo Ruiz attended, along with Deacons Bob Waters and Bob Pierce.

Father Hepner celebrated Mass followed by dinner in the church hall. The honorees were given shirts and coffee mugs with “Man of God” logos and other gifts.

Knights aid distressed veterans
SPARTANBURG—‡Members of Knights of Columbus Council 6076 volunteered to serve homeless veterans during the Upstate Stand Down event, which provides health and dental services, haircuts, hot meals, warm showers, clothing and housing opportunities. Vets could also meet with employers looking to fill jobs. Participating Knights included Ron Delac, Jack Klein, Ed McDaries, Andy Sulewski, John Sullivan and Leonard Zawacki.

Knights offer thanks
MYRTLE BEACH—‡Knights Mike Aldridge and Bruce Miller present an award to Bobby Gale (below), owner of Bobby Gale Chrysler-Jeep, for his contribution to the Operation Hope fundraiser. The gift helped Council 5086 surpass its annual goal for the second consecutive year. Operation Hope helps intellectually disadvantaged citizens through contributions to school districts and other avenues, such as Special Olympics.

Blessing the Tree of Faith
NORTH AUGUSTA—Father Jacob Joseph blessed the Tree of Faith at Our Lady of Peace Church recently. Sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 7062, Roy Kibler and his wife Michelle donated the 15-year-old, 25-foot-tall Nuttal oak, and had it transplanted in front of the church.

The plaque at the base of the tree mentions that Pope Benedict XVI urged the faithful to renew their conversion to God by opening a “door of faith”, through which the relationship with Christ and His Church is strengthened.

Knights donate MP3 players
CHARLESTON—Knights of Columbus Council 11471, from Our Lady of the Lakes in Columbia, donated a batch of MP3 players to Father Robert Higgins for use by veterans at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Medical Center in Charleston. As part of the Frontline Faith Project, the MP3 players are pre-programmed with spiritual content and given to military men and women throughout the world. The program helps service members stay connected to Church services and Mass. For more information, visit www.frontlinefaithproject.org/donations.
