Knights barbecue for inmates
GREENWOOD—Knights of Columbus Council 7129 held a “Day of Grace and Mercy” at Leath Women’s State Correctional Institution. Over 600 inmates joined in fellowship, games and a barbecue. Walt Lordemann, council financial secretary, was assisted by Mike Crawford, Gerald Alex, Mike Zink and Rhett Copeland. Inmates played bingo to win toiletry prizes. Our Lady of Lourdes Church prison ministry team members and others were also key participants.

GREENVILLE—The ANCOP Walk drew 150 people from the Filipino community to celebrate with an opening prayer and breakfast, followed by a threemile walk around the park. Participants then met for a family day picnic filled with games and foods. The event was organized by Filipino Couples for Christ.

GREENVILLE—A picnic to honor the Vietnamese Language Program was held at Gower Park where more than 50 children ages 4-18 enjoyed games and a lot of good food prepared by the parents and volunteers. Louden visits Corpus Christi

LEXINGTON—Debbie Louden, a member of Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope, visited her home parish at Corpus Christi on the way to France, where her order will live with the Servants of the Poor, OSB, for a year to further their formation in religious life.

They will first attend an Immersion Language School for a month to learn French and then enter the convent. She offered her gratitude for the prayers, support and gifts.

“All of you are greatly appreciated and I have been deeply touched,” she wrote in the bulletin. “Please know that you are in my thoughts and that I am praying for you daily. As I continue seeking the Lord’s will for me in all things, I beseech your prayers.”

Fundraiser for hope

MYRTLE BEACH—Operation Hope drew 200 people to watch the Myrtle Beach Pelicans play baseball recently, and raised $875. A St. Andrew parishioner celebrated his 10th birthday by throwing out the first pitch in front of his baseball teammates, who attended the game with him.

Tekakwitha Conference

GREENVILLE—The Office of Ethnic Ministries provided scholarships for Mary Louise Worthy and her granddaughter, Kayla Lynn Walela Wiegand, to attend the 2013 Tekakwitha Conference in El Paso, Texas, recently.

Worthy is a member of the Warrior Creek Kateri Circle, which is a group from all cultures who want to learn about and promote the saintly life of Kateri Tekakwitha, a young Mohawk/Algonquin woman of the mid-seventeenth century. The circles abide by the guidelines of the Tekakwitha Conference and encourage members to emulate the life of Blessed Kateri.
