Catholic Schools Week – in pictures

Diocesan schools celebrated Catholic Schools Week Jan. 27 through Feb. 2 with Masses and rosaries to honor their faith, open houses to promote the schools, and a multitude of activities for students, families, parishioners and the community at large – just to have fun.

Here are some photos submitted by schools across the state as they enjoyed the week.

COLUMBIA—Each year at Cardinal Newman High in Columbia, two males and two females in each grade are honored with Character Awards during Catholic Schools Week. These students represent what a quintessential Catholic school youth should be. They are selected based on their outstanding character; they are honest, kind, compassionate, helpful and friendly. Pictured above are the recipients: Seniors: Kelsey Leonard, Marie Silver, Kody Watson, Griffin Darby. Juniors: Morgan Mann, Lauren Deyling, Evan DuBois, Alex Six. Sophomores: Abby Ausspring, Jordan Schmidt, Griff Tompkins, Daniel Adkins. Freshmen: Mary Pickler, Katie Solomon, Nathaneal Petit, Goodson Michel. Eighth grade: Chloe Cobb, Kaitlyn Cote, Lilly Heidari, Cam Tringali, Max Lapin. MYRTLE BEACH—St. Andrew raised over $10,000 for the Community Kitchen and Helping Hand Food Pantry with their Hunger Walk during Catholic Schools Week. Students, teachers and parents walked three miles from the school, along the beach, and back in support of the hungry in the community. Coincidently, the day of the walk was a record breaking day with 540 meals served at the Community Kitchen.

MYRTLE BEACH—Kindergartners at St. Andrew School celebrated 101 days of school by dressing as Dalmatian puppies. Their day of fun and learning included their eighth-grade buddies, who helped them play math games. Shown here are Ben Malone, Jack Fanning and Aidan Wunderlich.

COLUMBIA—St. John Neumann hosted activities for students, faculty, staff, and parents, including Munchies for Mom and Donuts for Dad.

ROCK HILL—St. Anne students put on their annual ‘Showcase St. Anne’ to celebrate the gifts, talents and abilities of the children. Artworks, projects, writings and other creative skills such as dance and music, were displayed for our community at large to enjoy.

SUMTER—Bronwyn Hartman, an eighth-grader at St. Anne, sticks a cotton ball to her nose with petroleum jelly as she attempts to transfer them from one bowl to another during the school’s Minute to Win It Family Challenge.

GREENVILLE—At Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School, Mrs. Barlow and her first-grade class celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing up like 100-year-old people.

GREENVILLE—Students at St. Joseph’s Catholic School enjoyed cookies and milk on Student Appreciation Day. Members of St. Joseph’s grandparent organization, The St. Anne’s Society, and the school’s Parents Guild organization, brought in home baked cookies for all the students to enjoy.
