Expert volunteers sought for diocesan finance council

The Diocese of Charleston needs good men and women to step forward for service on the Finance Council. That doesn’t mean you need to be a finance expert, however.
John Barker, CFO, said they need people with backgrounds in specific areas, such as insurance or real estate. These experts will serve on committees to provide the diocese with guidance in their targeted areas of expertise.
For example, insurance issues are a growing concern for the diocese, Barker said, and they need people with an in-depth knowledge of the field to help them make decisions.
Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone posted a letter on the diocesan web page asking lay volunteers to step forward and assist in this endeavor.
He notes that the diocese must tap into the vast pool of talent and expertise that its parishioners have to offer in order to keep pace with a changing world.
“We are such a growing diocese,” Barker said. “We’re trying to bring more structure and more focus on what the Finance Council does and how it advises the bishop.”
Barker reminds all applicants to secure their pastor’s signature as an endorsement. He hopes the new committees will be established and running by July, the new fiscal year.
Applicants are sought for the following areas: investment; accounting, finance and audit; real estate, property management and property development; legal; insurance, including health, property and casualty; human resources; stewardship and development; and technology.
To apply, visit the departments link at www.catholic-doc.org. The application form is at the bottom of the bishop’s letter.
