Intergenerational ministry breaks ground

MOUNT PLEASANT—Christ Our King Church held a groundbreaking for its new intergenerational ministry building on Jan. 8. Msgr. James. A. Carter, pastor, is seen speaking at the podium. The Beach House at Christ Our King will be used for the parish’s youth and senior ministries to encourage “mutual influence, support, growth, and understanding.” It will use a sustainable design and employ the latest methods of resource and energy-efficient construction.

Screening of ‘October Baby’

Oyster roast

FOLLY BEACH—Our Lady of Good Counsel Church men’s club will hold an oyster roast on Feb. 4 from 5-8 p.m. in the church hall, 105 W. Hudson Ave. Cost is $25 for oyster eaters, $10 for non-oyster eaters.

Ministry of the Word mission

CHARLESTON—Blessed Sacrament Church, 5 Saint Teresa Drive, will sponsor a parish mission by the Franciscan Friars, Ministry of the Word, on Feb. 4-8. Franciscan Father Roderic Petrie will speak at all Masses Feb. 4-5. Each day Feb. 6-8, he will celebrate Mass at noon and give a presentation at 6.30 p.m.

The Bishops Crystal Ball 2012

St. Vincent de Paul Society gives thanks

COLUMBIA—The St. Vincent de Paul Society is grateful to all who helped over the holiday season, when about 3,200 guests were ministered to and fed. They had hundreds of $10 Turkey Adoptions for Thanksgiving and $10 Gym Gift Bags for Christmas for the adults,  and hundreds of toiletry bags provided by St. Peter’s Five-0-Plus Club and Red Bank Baptist Church. Thanks also to Dr. Fulton Gasper and family for providing over 550 pair of reading glasses and to the Women’s Sodality of St. Peter’s for their donation of stockings for children from the shelters.
