MYRTLE BEACH — Catholics who want to deepen their knowledge of the faith and grow in fellowship with other Catholics from around the diocese might want to note that the deadline to register for “Fire at the Beach” is nearing.
The Diocese of Charleston will officially wrap up the papal Year of the Eucharist and the close of the three-year Disciples in Mission evangelization process with the Sept. 16-17 conference at the Ocean Dunes Resorts.
Along with nationally known speakers Paulist Father Bob Rivers and Jesuit Father J-Glenn Murray, participants can hear Mike Dubruiel, author of the recently published book, “How to Get the Most Out of the Eucharist,” featured in The Catholic Miscellany. Dubruiel is a native of New Hampshire, has an undergraduate degree in philosophy from St. Meinrad College in Southern Indiana, a master’s of divinity from St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Fla., and a master’s in Christian spirituality from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
He has worked in Fort Wayne, Ind., for Our Sunday Visitor Press since 1999. He is also the author of “The How-to Book of the Mass” and “Praying the Holy Rosary.”
Other “Fire at the Beach” speakers and their topics include Father Michael Clay, “RCIA — 6 Foundational elements” and “Eucharist — The repeatable sacrament of initiation”; Cathy Rusin, M.Th., “Catechist 101,” “Lifelong Catechesis,” “Spirituality of the Catechist”; and Jane Myers, DRE at St. Andrews Church in Clemson, “Small Faith Communities,” “Young Adult Ministry (ages 18-34).” Father Mario Vizcaino-Montes, SEPI, will speak during the Multicultural/Hispanic Ministry Track, and Kathleen Merritt of the Diocese of Charleston will speak on “Welcoming the Stranger Among Us.” Alan Reed of Prince of Peace Church in Taylors will speak during the Music Track, and Mike Patin, a crowd favorite at previous All Ministries Conferences in the diocese, will be featured in the Youth Track.
The Diocese of Charleston recommends conference participation for all parish-level ministers, including catechists, DREs, youth leaders and pastors.
