Michael Kirk

College seminarian at Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio

Birthplace/date: Dec. 14, 1983, in Greenville

Home parish/location: St. Mary Magdalene in Simpsonville

Family: mom and dad and one sister in Simpsonville

Favorite aspect of seminary: community and prayer life

Most difficult aspect of seminary: the papers

Three people you would like to meet: St. John of the Cross, the pope, Jesus Christ

What inspired your vocation: The joy that God puts in people’s lives.

What do you do for stress relief: workout or pray

Last movie/book you saw/read: A Man for All Seasons (movie), The Seven Story Mountain by Thomas Merton

Reactions from others on your entering the seminary: My family was supportive; my friends were split, about 70 percent were excited, and others were dumbfounded at the possibility.

What occupation would you have pursued, if not priesthood: military service

Time period you would like to visit: 16th century

If you were stranded in a bell tower, what three things would you want with you: a rope to get down, a cell phone to call someone to pick me up, a breviary to pray while the time passes

If you had three wishes, what would they be: that my family is well taken care of, that I be reconciled at the time of my death, that I never fail a paper in college

What’s your biggest fear: not being reconciled at death, falling away

If you could be a patron saint, what would it be of: lectors

What might you choose as your personal motto: Faith is a journey, a very rocky one at that, but the journey isn’t as important as the destination.
