Deacon Gregory Wilson

4th year student at St. Vincent Seminary

Birthplace/date: Greenwood, Oct. 14, 1972

Home parish, location: St. Joseph’s, Columbia

Family: mom and dad in St. Matthew’s, two sisters, one brother

Favorite aspect of seminary: having the time and privilege of studying

Most difficult aspect of seminary: learning proper discipline in keeping a schedule

3 people you would like to meet: the pope, Mozart, Thomas Hardy

Who/what inspired your vocation: The Eucharist was the key to my conversion. It’s been the whole impetus to my vocation.

What do you do for stress relief: walk, ride my bicycle, reading (other than theology), hanging out with friends

Last movie you saw: “The Patriot”

Reactions from others on your entering the seminary: My father was sure I wanted to be a professional student. It was mostly good, positive feedback. Being a convert, a lot of people didn’t, still don’t, understand the priesthood.

What occupation would you have pursued, if not priesthood: immunology

If you were stranded in a bell tower, what three things would you want with you: my breviary, a book (other than theology), food

Do you think the seminary will adequately prepare you for priesthood: as well as possible, without the hands-on experience (of actually being a priest)

If you had 3 wishes, what would they be: Christian unity, peace in countries around the world, stronger families

What’s your biggest fear: not being prepared for a homily

If you could be a patron saint, what would it be of: people who doubt their faith

What might you choose as your personal motto: Nothing is impossible with God
