Panduro to represent diocesan youth at national conference

SPARTANBURG — The people of St. Paul the Apostle are very proud of Ana Panduro.

The soon-to-be 17-year-old is a junior at Spartanburg High School and a member of the St. Paul the Apostle youth group.

Panduro also has a special affinity for the elderly. She volunteers at Spartanburg’s Mary Black Hospital and prefers to works on the geriatric and pediatric sections.

The youth group at St. Paul the Apostle is very active. Panduro’s love for the elderly prompted her to encourage the busy group to visit nursing homes.

They are now in the process of collecting Care Bears to give to nursing home residents on Valentine’s Day.

The St. Paul youth group also works at the soup kitchen at First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg once a month.

Panduro found helping at the soup kitchen so fulfilling that she now goes on her own almost every Saturday.

Panduro is a member of the National Honor Society and takes honors and advanced placement classes. She is a member of her school’s service club and Delta Pi Science Club.

The bright teen-ager hopes to go to Notre Dame and though she is not sure, she possibly wants to major in science.

Panduro is the only girl in a family with three boys and was born in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The Panduro family came to this country 10-and-a-half years ago when her father, a chemical engineer, was offered a position in Spartanburg.
